Although the IDS application is optimized for implementation with MCD Release 5.0 and later software, it can be implemented in a network that contains elements with MCD Release 4.0 and 4.1 software (a "mixed" network).
The following conditions apply:
All elements in the network or cluster must support the System Data Synchronization feature.
The MiVoice Business element connected to the corporate directory server (the MiVoice Business IDS contact point) must have Release 5.0 or later software.
If the corporate directory server provides an LDAP update that includes a directory number (DN), and the home element for that DN is not the MiVoice Business IDS contact point, then SDS Reach Through is required to retrieve template data and update the user and device record on the home element. If SDS is not enabled or the IDS contact point is not sharing with the home element, or if the home element does not support User and Service Templates, the update will fail and the following application error will be recorded on the MiVoice Business IDS contact point: "Cannot reach-through and update entry on the remote home element because it has an earlier version of software that does not support template and IDS."
Because elements with Release 4.0 or 4.1 software do not support User and Service Templates, they cannot host DNs managed on the corporate directory server. However, they can host locally added DNs, and they can receive updates for DNs hosted on other elements in the SDS network or cluster.
If the corporate directory server provides an LDAP update that lacks a DN, or if the LDAP update includes a DN that is hosted on the MiVoice Business IDS contact point, then SDS Application Reach Through is not required. The update is processed on the MiVoice Business IDS contact point and distributed to other elements in the SDS network or cluster.
NOTE: To view or update a user and device record that lacks a DN, the host MiVoice Business element must have MCD Release 4.1 or later software.
When you perform SDS synchronization in a mixed network, an error message is generated indicating that some forms could not be synchronized because they are not supported on the pre-Release 5.0 elements.
